A prayer for owen meany book5/22/2023 ![]() ![]() I felt good reading, even if some characters were assholes and antagonists, there were so much goodness in other characters. Given that a main plot point is that the main character's mom is accidentally killed by his best friend I assumed it would be a very dark novel, that would be draining to read. In that sense, the main character was pretty relatable, because his feelings for Owens seemed very reasonable. You can't help but love him even if he is weird and kinda annoying at times. I can't even explain it: he is HILARIOUS, but not in a way that makes you laugh at or with him, he just is. at least the end of the book, but not the rest. That being said, for me, it ends up more like a good fantasy story. I guess it doesn't even matter whether or not the things Owen believed were true or not, because you can still enjoy it. And a book about a fictional character isn't exactly gonna make me believe either, but I doubt that is the point of it. It's about faith and religion and christianity, but I don't believe in that at all. ![]() I'm not entirely sure what I'm supposed to "get out of" this book. ![]() I enjoyed it a lot when I was reading it, it was just a very slow read for me (also there were three days last week where I didn't read at all. So going "ugh it took me forever to finish this book and also it was awful" would have been nice, but sadly that was not the case. I finished Stephen King's It in less time than that, for fuck sake. ![]() I kinda wish I hated this book given how long it took me to finish it. ![]()

Apples and Pumpkins by Anne Rockwell5/21/2023 ![]() ![]() ![]() Informative enough with regard to how at many so-called do-it-yourself farms, people pick and gather their own produce (like the apples and pumpkins of the book title), there is nevertheless just not in any manner enough information, there is simply not sufficient depicted and described details that are of interest being textually shown in Apples and Pumpkins except truly just the very bare minimum. ![]() Honestly, while Anne Rockwell does (I guess) present a sweet enough little piece of basic and simple storytelling fluff about a family going on an autumn excursion to pick (to harvest) apples and pumpkins, there is really (in my opinion) nothing contained in either the featured text or the accompanying illustrations of Apples and Pumpkins that has in any manner managed to lastingly and truly wow or impress me (and no, even as a young child, I most definitely would have found Anne Rockwell's presented narrative of Apples and Pumpkins much too frustratingly lacking in verbal description and Lizzy Rockwell's artwork as too cartoon-like and one dimensionally stagnant, with especially the depicted facial features of both the family and the farmer feeling aesthetically devoid of even rudimentary and basic necessary expressiveness). ![]() Crashed by k bromberg5/21/2023 ![]() ![]() ![]() Bromberg writes contemporary novels that contain a mixture of sweet, emotional, a whole lot of sexy, and a little bit of real. Nate and Polly’s lives soon become a series of narrow misses, of evading the bad guys and the police, of sleepless nights in motels. They’ve already murdered his ex-wife, Polly’s mother. Nate made dangerous enemies in prison-a gang called Aryan Steel has put out a bounty on his head, counting on its members on the outside to finish him off. He takes her from the front of her school into a world of robbery, violence, and the constant threat of death. So, here’s the official blurb to keep me from slipping:Įleven-year-old Polly McClusky is shy, too old for the teddy bear she carries with her everywhere, when she is unexpectedly reunited with her father, Nate, fresh out of jail and driving a stolen car. Harper’s better to read on this than me, anyway. This is one of those books where you want to sit and talk about it for a couple of hours - recapping and dissecting the events, analyzing, and speculating about what happens after the book ends or you don’t want to say anything beyond “just read it, I don’t want to ruin anything for you.” I could absolutely relish the former, but I’m going to hew closer to the latter. The Royal Kidnapping by J. Jack Bergeron5/20/2023 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I collaborated with him to write a book about his adventurers on Earth. For those of you who don't believe in UFOs and extraterrestrials, I had the privilege a while back of meeting Appleton the alien from the Omega Star Cluster. 'GREETINGS EARTHLINGS, My name is Appleton and I come from the planet Reginta.' (youtube promo videos: bit.ly/1CET50n, bit.ly/1Jtk8DB) It's a 'what if' story of Queen Elizabeth II having a son born in 1950 instead of a daughter, and he is later kidnapped and then found almost 50 years later (one tiny little spoiler: he eventually meets his mother the Queen, and she finds out he works for an organized crime mob!). My previous book, 'The Royal Kidnapping', is my first attempt at a mystery thriller. (youtube promo videos: bit.ly/1BLw0Os, bit.ly/1LO6ZCu) My latest book, 'NSA Wormhole Project' is a new book involving wormhole travel and discoveries involving both medieval people and a mysterious race living on a far away planet. It's about a person who survives 50,000 years and wakes up in the future. (youtube promo videos: bit.ly/1dnGkR4, bit.ly/1HnuYKW) I would love to know what life would be like in the future, so I wrote: I have written mostly science fiction books in the past, and I write about things I'm passionate about. ![]() |
